A detox is a short term diet done with the purpose of cleaning out toxins and chemicals from the body, stemming from eating processed and pesticide treated food, drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks, and using make-up, hair- and skin-products containing chemicals
Detox is short for detoxification, and is essentially the removing or elimination of toxins from the body. This is a naturally ongoing process, taking place in the kidneys, liver, skin, and lungs, where harmful elements consumed though our food, drinks and from the air is being cleaned out and expelled as waste. The principle of the detox diet is that this process can be helped underway by the removal of harmful elements from our daily dietary intake.
This is done most popularly by different form of diets. These are usually short term. The dietary intake of these diets focuses on minimizing the ingestion of chemicals, are high in vitamins and antioxidants that help the detoxification process underway, and high in fiber and water to help increase urination and bowl movements. A detox diet can be taken in the form of a juice diet or a normal diet.
Many people find that doing detox diets give them a feeling of having more energy, being in better health, and having a better wellbeing. This can though also be a result of eating a diet containing no sugar, processed food and alcohol, and eating more vitamins and fibers. There is no scientific proof that detox diets work, or that they improve your health above the natural improvement that eating a healthier diet will give you.
